When the company was registered in late 2018, the construction project paperwork did not get the necessary technical support for some reason or other, and we got our wires crossed when registering the property and the land plot. Unfortunately, our accountant took a long time to get a handle on such documentation, and we did not learn about serious discrepancies until right before the statutory audit. Our new service provider - the Beterra company - had only a short time to restore the accounts since the incorporation date.

In the course of their engagement, the accountants perused and analysed the registration and engineering documentation for the building, restored the order of registration of the construction project with due regard to the transfer of the title to the fixed asset and the underlying land plot. Corrections were made to the bookkeeping and accounting records, and the accounting process was automated.

As a result, the auditors delivered a clean opinion, which attested not only to the faithfulness of the accounts recovered for the preceding periods, but also to the truth and fairness of the figures and the transparency of the accounting processes. Another bonus for us was that, once all the processes were fine-tuned, Beterra saw its way clear to quoting us a good price for their services.

We have a retail chain, with each outlet carrying a lot of equipment and outlays on its books. In the course of an audit, we discovered that the migration of the old accounting database to a new configuration created discrepancies in fixed asset details. This necessitated running a data reconciliation, developing a bespoke methodology for fixed asset accounting and reconfiguring the existing business process.

We turned to Beterra experts for help with our unconventional problem. They developed a detailed custom classification for our fixed assets, identified the categories of property and capital investment possible for our situation, as well writing a bylaw to lay down the accounting methodology for each group of fixed assets.

We also asked them to develop a user-friendly step-by-step guide on asset accounting, which is what they did. Now, if our accountant takes a holiday, his role can be insourced to a colleague in charge of another function. It is now much easier to follow up on their deliverables.

Let me add that the project revealed major discrepancies in the book value of assets. That is why our Beterra colleagues evaluated the risks and materiality of the discrepancies in the run-up to the annual financial statements and statutory audit.

Our company is affiliated with an international group, and for consolidation purposes, financials need to be filed in the group's in-house format in a timely manner. The shareholders approve the year-end financial statements at the annual meeting, which is held at the end of February. We communicated our deadlines to our financial statement provider when entering into a services contract.

I focus exclusively on business tasks, so it was necessary that the arrangements be made without my involvement.

In the end, the accountants made short work of finalizing the intra-group schedules for filing the interim and annual financial statements, and every quarter they interface directly with the financial team, sending them all the necessary breakdowns for the approval of accounts and coordinating with auditors to identify the best solutions in the Russian legislative environment.
